Mobile RV Refrigerator Repair — We Fix It Where It's Parked
A warm RV refrigerator is one of the most frustrating things that can happen at the start of a camping trip — or worse, mid-trip when you've already stocked it with food. Whether your fridge stopped cooling entirely, is running warm, or is making strange sounds, Guardians of the Journey diagnoses and repairs RV refrigerators on-site, wherever your rig is parked across the Charlotte region.
No towing. No dealership waitlists. We come to you and get it sorted.
RV Refrigerator Types We Service
RV refrigerators work differently from home refrigerators, and there are two distinct types — each with their own failure modes. We service both.
Absorption Refrigerators (2-Way and 3-Way)
Absorption refrigerators are the traditional RV fridge — they run on propane, 120V AC power, or 12V DC power (depending on the model), and they cool using a chemical process rather than a compressor. They're quiet and efficient when working correctly, but they have specific quirks and failure points that require RV-specific knowledge to diagnose properly.
Common brands we service: Norcold and Dometic — the two dominant absorption fridge manufacturers in the RV industry.
12-Volt Compressor Refrigerators
Compressor refrigerators — like those made by Furrion and newer Dometic models — work more like a residential fridge and are increasingly common in newer RVs. They run solely on 12V DC power and are more efficient and reliable in hot weather than absorption units, but they have their own set of potential issues.
Common RV Refrigerator Problems We Repair
Fridge not cooling at all The most common call we get. On an absorption unit this could be a cooling unit failure, a propane issue, a failed igniter, or an electrical problem. On a compressor unit it could be a failed compressor, a refrigerant issue, or a control board fault. We diagnose the specific cause before recommending any repair.
Fridge runs warm but not cold enough Partial cooling usually points to airflow problems, a dirty condenser, a failing cooling unit, or — on absorption fridges — a leveling issue or a low propane supply.
Fridge works on electric but not propane (or vice versa) On absorption refrigerators, each power mode has its own ignition and heating components. When one mode fails and the other works, the diagnosis narrows significantly. We isolate the faulty component and repair it.
Fridge won't ignite on propane Igniter failures, electrode fouling, a blocked burner, or a gas valve problem are the usual causes. We test and replace the faulty component.
Fridge is freezing everything If your fridge is too cold or freezing food, the thermostat or temperature control board is usually the culprit. We diagnose and correct it.
Fridge is making unusual noises Compressor fridges can develop rattles and vibrations from loose components or mounting hardware. Absorption fridges that gurgle or make boiling sounds may have a cooling unit issue. We identify the source.
Norcold or Dometic recall issues Certain Norcold and Dometic absorption refrigerators have been subject to safety recalls related to fire risk. If you're unsure whether your fridge is affected or has had the recall repair completed, we can check and advise.
RV Refrigerator Brands We Service
Norcold One of the most widely used absorption refrigerator brands in RVs. We service the full Norcold lineup including 1200, 2118, and other common models. If you have a Norcold that isn't cooling or won't ignite, we know these units well.
Dometic Dometic makes both absorption and compressor refrigerators and is found in an enormous range of RV makes and models. We service both their traditional absorption units and their newer compressor-based models.
Furrion Furrion's 12-volt compressor refrigerators are increasingly standard in newer travel trailers and fifth wheels. We diagnose and service Furrion units including control board issues, compressor problems, and electrical faults.
Other brands Have a different brand? Give us a call — we work on a wide range of RV refrigerators and can often help.
Pre-Trip Refrigerator Check
If your RV has been sitting in storage, your refrigerator deserves a look before you load it up with food and head out. Common post-storage issues include:
Absorption unit cooling systems that need to be re-leveled and cycled
Propane ignition components that need cleaning after sitting idle
Door seals that have dried out and are no longer sealing properly
Control boards that need to be reset after extended power-off periods
A quick pre-trip check can save you from discovering a warm fridge 200 miles from home.

Frequently Asked Questions — RV Refrigerator Repair
How much does RV refrigerator repair cost? It depends on the type of fridge, what's wrong, and what parts are needed. We diagnose first and give you a clear estimate before any work begins — no surprises.
Can you repair my RV fridge on-site without towing? Yes — that's what we do. We come to wherever your RV is parked and complete the repair on-site. Most refrigerator repairs are done in a single visit.
My absorption fridge worked fine last season. Why won't it cool now? Absorption fridges that sit idle for months can develop cooling unit issues, propane ignition buildup, and door seal problems. They also need to be reasonably level to cool properly — even a slight slope can affect performance. We check all of these systematically.
Is it worth repairing an absorption fridge or should I upgrade to a compressor unit? It depends on the age of the unit, the nature of the problem, and your budget. A cooling unit replacement on an older Norcold can be expensive — in some cases, upgrading to a 12-volt compressor unit makes more financial sense. We'll give you an honest breakdown of both options so you can decide.
My Norcold fridge has a recall notice. What should I do? Don't ignore it — certain Norcold models have a documented fire risk when the recall repair hasn't been performed. Contact us and we can check whether your unit is affected and what needs to be done.
How long does RV refrigerator repair take? Simple repairs like an igniter replacement or a thermostat swap can be done in under an hour. More involved repairs like a cooling unit replacement take longer. We'll give you a time estimate when we diagnose the issue.
