Mobile RV Slide-Out & Awning Repair — We Fix It Where It's Parked
A slide-out that won't move — or worse, one that's stuck out when you need to drive — is one of the most stressful mechanical failures an RV owner can experience. Same goes for an awning that won't retract in an incoming storm. These aren't problems you want to leave to chance or hand to a technician who isn't familiar with the systems involved.
Guardians of the Journey is one of the few mobile RV repair services in the Charlotte region with a Lippert Level 3 Certified technician on staff. Lippert is the manufacturer behind the slide and awning systems in a massive percentage of RVs on the road today — and Level 3 is the highest certification tier Lippert offers. That means when we work on your slides or awnings, we're not guessing. We know these systems inside and out.
We come to you — at your home, your campground, or your storage facility — and get your slides and awnings working again without a tow truck in sight.
What Is Lippert Level 3 Certification?
Lippert Components is the largest manufacturer of RV slide-out systems, awnings, leveling systems, and chassis components in North America. Their products are found in RVs from nearly every major manufacturer — Forest River, Keystone, Coachmen, Grand Design, Jayco, Thor, and many more.
Lippert's technician certification program has three levels, with Level 3 being the most advanced. A Level 3 Lippert Certified technician has demonstrated mastery of Lippert's full range of systems — including complex slide mechanisms, OneControl electronics, and hydraulic and electric leveling systems. It is the credential that Lippert itself recommends when owners want assurance that their systems are being serviced correctly.
If your RV has a Lippert slide, awning, or leveling system — and there's a good chance it does — our Level 3 certification means you're getting factory-level expertise, delivered to your driveway.
RV Slide-Out Repair
Common Slide-Out Problems We Fix
Slide won't extend Could be an electrical fault, a failed motor, a controller issue, or a mechanical obstruction. We run through the full diagnostic sequence to find the exact cause before touching anything.
Slide won't retract One of the most urgent slide problems — you can't drive with a slide stuck out. We treat these as priority calls and work quickly to get you mobile again.
Slide extends or retracts unevenly If one side of your slide moves faster than the other, or if the slide is racking (going in crooked), the issue is usually a synchronization problem, a worn gear, or a cable/rack that needs adjustment. Left alone, this causes wear on the seals and the slide mechanism itself.
Slide moves slowly or struggles A slide that labors through its travel usually has a lubrication issue, a motor that's starting to fail, or a mechanical binding point. We service and lubricate the full slide mechanism and identify any worn components.
Slide leaks or has damaged seals Worn or torn slide seals let in water, drafts, and insects. We inspect and replace slide seals to restore a proper weather-tight fit.
Slide makes grinding or popping noises Usually a sign of a dry or worn gear, a debris obstruction, or a component that's beginning to fail. Better to address it now than after a full failure.
RV Slide-Out Systems We Service
Lippert / Schwintek in-wall slide systems — the most common slide system in travel trailers and fifth wheels today, and one we know at a certified level
Lippert hydraulic slide systems — found in many Class A motorhomes and larger fifth wheels
Electric rack-and-pinion systems — common across many RV brands
Cable-driven slide systems — older but still widely used
Other systems — call us and we'll let you know if we can help
RV Awning Repair
Common Awning Problems We Fix
Awning won't extend or retract Motor failures, control board faults, and wiring issues are the most common causes. We diagnose electrically before assuming a mechanical problem.
Awning retracts partially but not fully Often a tension spring issue, a motor that's losing power, or a binding point in the fabric or arm mechanism.
Awning fabric is torn or worn A torn awning fabric not only looks bad — it lets water in and can catch wind dangerously. We assess whether repair or fabric replacement is the right call.
Awning arms are bent or damaged Storm damage and wind events can bend awning arms significantly. We assess the damage and advise on repair or replacement.
Awning won't lock in the open or closed position A locking mechanism that won't engage is a safety hazard — an unlocked open awning can collapse in wind. We inspect and repair the locking hardware.
Wind sensor not working Many modern power awnings have automatic wind sensors that retract the awning in high winds. If yours isn't retracting automatically when it should, we diagnose the sensor and control system.
RV Awning Brands We Service
Lippert / Solera awnings — factory-authorized service as a Lippert Level 3 Certified technician
Dometic awnings — including A&E and legacy models
Carefree of Colorado awnings — another widely used brand
Other brands — give us a call
RV Leveling System Repair
As a Lippert Level 3 Certified technician, we also service Lippert leveling systems — both electric and hydraulic. A leveling system that won't extend, won't retract, or gives error codes is something we diagnose and repair on-site.
Common leveling issues we address:
Jacks that won't extend or retract
Hydraulic fluid leaks
Control panel error codes
Electric leveling motor failures
Auto-level calibration issues

Frequently Asked Questions — RV Slides & Awnings
How much does RV slide repair cost? It depends on what's wrong — a simple motor replacement is very different from a full Schwintek gear service. We diagnose first and give you a clear estimate before any work begins.
My slide is stuck out and I need to move my RV. What do I do? Call us right away at (980) 399-4375. A slide stuck in the extended position is one of our priority calls. In many cases we can also walk you through a manual override procedure on the phone to get you moving while we schedule the repair.
Do you work on Schwintek in-wall slides? Yes — Schwintek is a Lippert system and one we're specifically certified on. Schwintek slides have a reputation for being finicky, and they really do require someone who knows the system to diagnose and repair correctly.
My RV is a Forest River / Grand Design / Keystone / Jayco — do you work on those? Almost certainly yes. Lippert supplies the slide and awning systems for the vast majority of RVs from those manufacturers. Our Level 3 certification covers the systems inside your rig regardless of the brand name on the outside.
Can you fix my awning if the fabric is torn? Yes — we can assess the damage and either repair the fabric or replace it entirely depending on the extent of the tear and the age of the awning.
Do you repair hydraulic slides as well as electric? Yes. We service both electric and hydraulic slide systems, including hydraulic fluid checks and leak repairs.
